The John Lennon Real Love Project (JLRLP) is a free songwriting workshop for children and adults impacted by cancer and a free songwriting program for public elementary school students.
In the JLRLP music workshop, participants compose and (sometimes) record their own songs. In the public school program, kids write their own lyrics to “Real Love” and then record their own version of the song accompanied by John Lennon’s original vocal and piano track.
In 2022, Theatre Within, the non-profit behind the Annual John Lennon Tribute, has provided:
50+ JLRLP workshops for children and teens impacted by cancer through the Red Door Community (formerly Gilda’s Club NYC) and other regional cancer support communities.
3 JLRLP workshops at Convenant House, a non-profit in NYC providing residential services to vulnerable, homeless, runaway and exploited youth.
5 JLRLP programs for public elementary schools.
