Irina Vekselman is the principal in Irina A. Vekselman, Esq., PLLC, a law firm that represents a small and select group of clients in the areas of entertainment and general intellectual property. Since opening its doors in 2009, the firm has focused on developing a strong client base that is focused on music, television and film entertainment.
Prior to establishing a solo practice, Irina was an associate in the Entertainment, Media and Sports group of Dewey & LeBoeuf, and is currently a member of the firm's DL Pursuits program. Irina has represented prestigious music clients, including Michael Jackson and Lil' Kim. She has also served as transactional legal counsel to film clients, taking them through festival screenings and subsequent distribution, and several sports clients in both transactional and litigation matters. Prior to attending law school, Irina spent two years in the Business Affairs department of HBO and one year in the Legal department of NewLine Cinema.
Since starting law school, Irina has made efforts to use her education to give back to her community, which has included representing indigent clients as part of a city public defender's office and representing disabled persons during Administrative Law Hearings, as part of a non-profit legal organization. Additionally, Irina currently serves as a weekly guest lecturer at a local high school, teaching an Introduction to Finance course to high school freshmen.
Irina holds a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she was an Executive Production Editor of the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal, and a member of a first place winning team of the Cardozo/BMI Entertainment and Communications Law Moot Court Competition. Irina also holds a B.S. in Marketing, with a concentration in Entertainment, Media & Technology from New York University's Stern School of Business.
